How to watch Erik Esselstyn's memorial service online

Image
Can't make it to East Montpelier at 2:00 this coming Saturday (Feb 3, 2024) for Erik's remembrance service? Here's how you can tune in and attend the service virtually. The Old Meeting House will provide a webcast on their YouTube channel at  https://www.youtube.com/@oldmeetinghouse1564/streams . If you go to the site before 2pm the video might not be available to click on in advance. You may need to refresh the page as it gets closer to the beginning of the service. [Update!] Here is the program for the service so that people viewing from afar can follow along if desired. For those who aren't adept with switching back and forth between tabs and/or windows on the computer, it might be helpful to load the program in advance and print it out. =) Most of the following text is redundant (I'm basically adding some more words so that people searching using other keywords will be more likely to be able to find it). The way to view Erik Esselstyn's funeral, or celebra...

Erik Esselstyn obituary

Image
Dad/Erik's obituary was published in the Montpelier paper and on their website , but their page evidently isn't visible to people in some other countries. Also, the online version combines all the paragraphs into one, and it's not clear how long it will stay available. Hence, it seemed to make sense to publish it here as well. NORTH MONTPELIER — Erik C. Esselstyn, 86, died Dec. 23, 2023, at Central Vermont Medical Center with family by his side. He had been diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer less than three months before his death.     An inquisitive, thoughtful, and caring man, capable of both gentleness and tenacity, Erik led a life of many distinct chapters, with variety in professional roles, intellectual pursuits, and geographic location. His commitment to deeply connecting with people means that, in addition to kin from his birth family and from two long marriages, he leaves behind a multitude of close friends.     Born Apr. 7, 1937, in New York ...

1981 video profile of Erik on HealthBeat TV show

Image
This  9-minute video  is an excerpt from a TV show out of Boston that profiled Dad/Erik and his unexpected recovery from his (first) bout with cancer. In addition to the inspiring message from an underdog success and the fun of seeing him at age 44 (about half the age he was when he died), you might get pleasure from the 1981 fashion choices and plaid earthtone kitchen wall-to-wall carpeting. I still have—and wear—the timeless plaid wool shirt he's wearing in the frame shown here. Enjoy! -Blake

The celebration of life* for Erik Esselstyn is scheduled for Saturday,  February 3rd, 2023, at 2:00pm . The location is the Old Meeting House at 1620 Center Road, East Montpelier Center, VT 05602. My understanding is that it will also be streamed online via YouTube or Zoom. Details about the online option will be shared on this site when I know more. UPDATE: I've posted that information here .   Thanks to L. Hinrichsen and C. Barton for sharing this photo of Dad/Erik, evidently taken in 2020. In the three weeks between today and the service, I will try to add some sort of content to this website every day. Some days it may just be a photo, but I figure if I announce the aspiration, maybe I'll be more likely to achieve it. Till next time, -Blake * or "service of remembrance" — I'm including multiple terms in the title and body of this post to increase the likelihood that people will find it if they search
